The U.S. Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is hosting a sports diplomacy tour featuring two star players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George will participate in a public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 PM.
This family-friendly event is free to the public and welcomes all attendees. The Harlem Globetrotters, a famous American exhibition basketball team, have captivated millions around the globe with their unique combination of athleticism, humor, and theatrical performance. Established in 1926, the team has become a legendary figure in basketball, recognized for their innovative ball-handling, trick shots, and engaging audience interactions.
Over the years, the Globetrotters have played over 26,000 exhibition games across 124 countries and territories, often acting as goodwill ambassadors. Bullard, celebrated for his spectacular dunks and captivating personality, alongside George, a Guinness World Record holder, will later travel to Nauru following their brief stop in Fiji.
This tour is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy initiative, which aims to leverage the universal appeal of sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations. Throughout their visit to Fiji and Nauru, they plan to engage with students and basketball enthusiasts in both countries.
At the event in Yat Sen, participants will witness Bull and Torch showcase their basketball skills, engage in interactive games, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ trademark mix of talent and comedy. This represents a unique chance to connect with two exceptional athletes who embody the unifying power of sports.
