Globetrotters Take Fiji by Storm: A Night of Basketball and Diplomacy!

The U.S. Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is hosting a sports diplomacy tour featuring two star players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters in Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George are set to hold a public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. This family-friendly event is free and open to all attendees.

The Harlem Globetrotters, an American exhibition basketball team, have captivated audiences around the globe with their unique combination of athleticism, comedy, and performance art. Established in 1926, the team has become a hallmark of basketball brilliance and showmanship, celebrated for their impressive ball-handling skills, trick shots, and ability to engage fans.

Throughout their history, the Globetrotters have performed over 26,000 exhibition games in 124 countries, frequently acting as goodwill ambassadors. Bullard, known for his dynamic dunks and engaging personality, and George, a Guinness World Record holder, will continue their tour to Nauru following their visit to Fiji.

This tour is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy initiative, which leverages the power of sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations. During their time in Fiji and Nauru, they are scheduled to visit schools and interact with basketball enthusiasts across both countries.

Attendees at the Yat Sen event will have the chance to witness Bull and Torch showcase their basketball talents, engage in interactive activities, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ unique mix of skill and humor. This presents a remarkable opportunity to connect with two exceptional athletes who embody the unifying potential of sports.
