Globetrotters Slam-Dunk into Fiji: A Night of Fun and Sports Diplomacy!

The US Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is hosting two renowned players from the legendary Harlem Globetrotters for a sports diplomacy tour in Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George are scheduled to hold a special public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 PM.

This family-friendly gathering is open to everyone, and there is no admission fee. The Harlem Globetrotters, a celebrated American exhibition basketball team, have captivated millions worldwide with their unique combination of athleticism, humor, and theatrical performance. Established in 1926, the team is renowned for its exceptional ball-handling techniques, trick shots, and engaging audience interactions.

Throughout the years, the Globetrotters have participated in over 26,000 exhibition games across 124 countries and regions, often acting as ambassadors of goodwill. Bullard, known for his spectacular dunks and engaging personality, along with George, a Guinness World Record holder, will continue their journey to Nauru following their brief stay in Fiji.

This tour is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy program, which leverages the universal appeal of sports to foster connections between individuals, cultures, and nations. While in Fiji and Nauru, the athletes will visit schools and engage with basketball enthusiasts in both countries.

During the event at Yat Sen, attendees can look forward to witnessing Bull and Torch showcase their basketball skills, participate in interactive games, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ renowned blend of skill and comedy. This event presents a remarkable chance to connect with two exceptional athletes who illustrate the unifying power of sports.
