Globetrotters Bring Basketball Magic to Fiji!

The US Embassy in Suva, in collaboration with Basketball Fiji, is bringing two prominent players from the renowned Harlem Globetrotters for a sports diplomacy tour of Fiji. Will “Bull” Bullard and Cherelle “Torch” George will host a public event at Yat Sen School on Friday, August 16, from 5 to 7 PM.

This family-friendly event is open to everyone, and entry is free. The Harlem Globetrotters, an American exhibition basketball team, have captivated audiences around the globe with their unique combination of athleticism, humor, and performance.

Since their establishment in 1926, the team has become a legendary representation of basketball brilliance and showmanship, known for their inventive ball-handling skills, trick shots, and engaging interactive experiences with fans. Over the years, the Globetrotters have participated in more than 26,000 exhibition games across 124 countries and territories, often acting as goodwill ambassadors.

Bullard, famous for his impressive dunks and engaging personality, along with George, a Guinness World Record holder, will continue their tour to Nauru after their short visit to Fiji. This initiative is part of the U.S. Department of State’s Sports Diplomacy program, which leverages the universal appeal of sports to foster connections among people, cultures, and nations.

While in Fiji and Nauru, they will visit various schools and engage with basketball enthusiasts throughout both countries. At the Yat Sen event, attendees will have the chance to watch Bull and Torch showcase their basketball skills, participate in interactive games, and enjoy the Globetrotters’ signature blend of talent and humor. This presents a rare opportunity to interact with two exceptional athletes who embody the ability of sports to inspire and unite people.
