GHS Rugby Team Makes Historic Leap to Semi-Finals!

The Gospel High School Under-15 rugby team has relied on self-belief as they navigate the Vodafone Deans Trophy competition. This was highlighted by GHS principal Iliesa Parker in an interview with SUNsports.

The team shocked the competition by defeating the favored Ratu Kadavulevu School 12-7 in the quarterfinals last Saturday, marking a significant upset. Parker noted that coaches are addressing areas for improvement as they prepare for the semi-finals, although some players are dealing with minor injuries that they hope will heal by Saturday.

Reflecting on the team’s performance against RKS, Parker expressed pride in their achievement. “This is the first time GHS has reached the Deans semi-final in any grade, so they have made history,” he stated. He emphasized the strong support from parents, alumni, and school management.

The school’s coaching staff was praised by Parker for their efforts. He mentioned the importance of discipline for the players, both in school and during practice, and noted their eagerness to play at a stadium for the first time this Saturday.

The team will face off against Marist, a champions side they have not encountered this season. Parker expressed honor in competing against the defending champions and encouraged all Gospel High supporters to wear the school’s colors of pink, white, and blue on Saturday.

“I want to invite Gospel High fans to come out in numbers to support the boys. I also wish good luck to the other schools in the semi-finals,” he concluded.
