The Land Transport Authority has announced a wheel tax amnesty for vehicles that were inactive during the COVID-19 pandemic. This amnesty will be in effect from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025, as stated in Legal Notice 73 of the Land Transport (Fees & Penalties) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.
Vehicles that expired between July 4, 2016, and July 31, 2023, qualify for a waiver on wheel tax arrears, which includes the Road User Levy and charges under the Accident Compensation Act 2017, according to the LTA’s statement. However, vehicles that expired before or on July 3, 2016, are not eligible for this waiver.
Arrears will be applicable from the date of expiry until July 3, 2016, but any arrears from July 4, 2016, up until the vehicle’s inspection date during the amnesty period will be waived. If a vehicle was valid between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, arrears will still be incurred.
To take advantage of this initiative, vehicle owners must visit their nearest LTA branch to resolve any outstanding fines, renew their motor vehicle accident levy (MVAL), and submit an application for inspection.
