Generosity Shines: Natabua High School Students Assist Classmate in Heroic Act

Act of Generosity

The heroic act of five Natabua High School students has captured widespread attention. These students, Setareki Danford, George Niumataiwalu, John Kumkee, Sean Mar, and Ratu Sakiusa Yalimaiwai, have been hailed as national heroes for helping Vasemaca Drotini, a Year One student from Jasper Williams Primary School, to get home safely after she lost her bus card and was distressed.

Their actions exemplify generosity, humanity, and kindness. The students not only walked Vasemaca home but also bought her snacks along the way. Grateful for their help, Vasemaca’s family visited the students to express their appreciation. This heartwarming story has garnered responses both locally and internationally, highlighting positive values taught in school and family life. As a former student of Natabua High School, I am incredibly proud of how these values have been upheld.

Switching Sides

With uncertain political careers looming, 10 out of 26 former FijiFirst MPs are now planning to join the People’s Alliance Party and support Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka. This calculated move aims to salvage their political careers. In modern politics, some politicians are driven by self-interest rather than ethics, loyalty, integrity, or honor. It raises questions about whether figures like Praveen Bala (Kumar) will also consider rejoining their former party.

Winds of Change

Political shifts are evident in Fiji, with members of the disbanded FijiFirst Party gravitating towards the Prime Minister. This shift renders minor coalition partners such as NFP and SODELPA less relevant. With the defeat of FijiFirst Party in December 2022, coalition dynamics are changing, empowering the Prime Minister to selectively include members from ex-FFP and coalition partners, while sidelining those who have shown disrespect.

Massive Payout

The $25,000 payout announced in the 2024-2025 National Budget has sparked varied reactions. A letter published on July 2 questioned why there were tearful reactions before miners received the money. It’s essential to understand the emotions of these miners who have waited 33 years for this moment. This Coalition Government has addressed their needs after previous leaders failed to do so. I urge individuals to set aside sarcasm and offer their support.

Where is Your Allegiance

Former FijiFirst MPs intending to join the Coalition Government need to remember their allegiance to their former leader and voters. Many of them entered Parliament by leveraging the party’s votes, and switching allegiance now could betray their supporters. They should consider the consequences carefully.

Humility – A Gift

Humility brings immense love and inner peace, a precious gift that goes beyond material comforts. It embodies gratitude and is a profound value highlighted in scriptures. Despite being often misunderstood as weakness, humility reflects strength and is essential for spiritual growth and human connection. It encourages us to conserve our energies for deserving causes and helps ward off negative vibes naturally.

FNPF Issue

Following Raj Kumar’s suggestion, it is proposed that the FNPF should make an ex gratia payment of $500 per year since 2011 to every affected pensioner who withdrew their funds early. Their contracts were unilaterally breached by government decree, and they deserve compensation for the abuse of power inflicted upon them.

Left Wing, Right, Progress

Fiji remains stagnant despite efforts towards progress. The country struggles due to unclear strategies from political wings, affecting overall progress, including areas like soccer. It’s crucial for the left wing, right wing, and central groups to define their strategies clearly for Fiji to progress.

An Opposition

Arguing an opposition is essential suggests governments inherently don’t work for the public interest. This stereotype needs reconsideration.

A Mortuary

Levuka Hospital urgently needs a mortuary, and the Minister of Health should address this issue immediately rather than delay.

Acting DPP

The Supreme Court ruling has nullified John Rabuku’s appointment as the acting DPP, as it is inconsistent with Fiji’s constitution. This decision should be respected, and lessons should be learned from this experience.

PM Doing Yoga

I am disappointed by Raj Kumar’s remarks about the Prime Minister practicing yoga. The PM promotes good health through a sensible lifestyle and deserves commendation. Fiji’s high rate of NCDs highlights the need for more disciplined health practices. Kumar’s remarks were both bigoted and foolish.

The Confusion

The government’s stance on human rights and parental accountability appears contradictory. While policies protect children’s rights, parents are now held accountable for their children’s serious crimes, leading to confusion.

Civil Service Day

Designating a Civil Services Day seems unnecessary when the level of service rendered by some public servants is deplorable. Improvement in service delivery should be prioritized.

Copa America

Watching Copa America, it’s annoying to see players acting, which spoils the excitement of the game.
