G11’s Ambitious Plan: Aiming for 19 Members Amid Fiji’s Political Shift

The leader of the G11, Ioane Naivalurua, is determined to expand his group, aiming to grow from the current 11 members to a target of 18 or even 19. In a statement to FBC News, Naivalurua expressed openness to welcoming additional members who are interested in joining his coalition. His comments follow the recent addition of two Independent MPs from the opposition’s Group of 16, Shalen Kumar and Sachida Nand, enhancing the G11’s ranks.

Naivalurua reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and emphasized a collaborative approach to addressing pressing issues in Fiji. Both Kumar and Nand have recently shown support for the Constitution Amendment Bill 2025, aligning themselves with Naivalurua’s vision of a more extensive coalition.

This development signals a notable shift in Fiji’s political landscape, especially after the dissolution of the FijiFirst party, which has led to the realignment of various political alliances. With two distinct opposition factions now evident — one led by Naivalurua and the other by Inia Seruiratu — the dynamics in Parliament are set to evolve significantly.

This emerging scenario fosters a sense of hope for democratic engagement in Fiji, as diverse voices contribute to discussions about governance and policy. With the impending elections, these changes may encourage more active participation from the electorate, enhancing representation and accountability in leadership.
