Future Horizons: Moala Island Students Explore Career Paths at Expo

Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island recently participated in a Careers Expo at Yasayasa Moala College, aimed at expanding their educational and career opportunities. Guided by their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu, students in grades 6 to 8 engaged in a week-long event organized by the Ministry of Education.

The Expo, which toured the Lau group, featured booths from various stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu emphasized the importance of exposing students to opportunities beyond their island, stating, “Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there.” He highlighted the significance of the expo for students as they prepare to transition to secondary school and ultimately to universities.

During the event, students visited numerous booths to learn about different educational pathways. Kotobalavu, an alumnus of Fiji National University, noted that having institutions like FNU present at the expo encourages students to contemplate their future possibilities. He remarked, “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” underscoring the positive impact of such initiatives in remote maritime areas.
