The Fijian government has allocated $900,000 to improving access to clean and safe drinking water for the communities in Niurua and Naqumu villages, located in the Macuata region. The announcement was made by Macuata provincial administrator Revoni Rakasa during a recent meeting of the Macuata Provincial Council held in Sasa Village.
Raising broader concerns, Ms. Rakasa noted that the government has planned an extensive investment of $637 million aimed at enhancing infrastructure and essential services in the northern part of Fiji. She emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that residents in the Northern Division, which includes Macuata, have access to crucial services.
The allocated funds will focus on important projects, including upgrades and maintenance of roads, water supply, communication systems, and market accessibility. Rakasa mentioned that while specific projects have been identified for funding, there may be delays in delivering these essential services to those in need.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting the community, citing past efforts in disaster relief, which saw over $655 million spent last year to assist recovery from natural calamities.
This investment in infrastructure and essential services represents a significant step forward for the communities in the northern division, providing hope for improved living conditions and better resilience to future challenges. The commitment to enhance drinking water supply is particularly critical as it ensures the health and wellbeing of the local population.
As the government continues to address these needs, residents can look forward to positive changes that will improve their quality of life and support sustainable development in the region.
