The prices for unleaded fuel, diesel, and premix have seen a decrease as of today. Starting from the beginning of this month, the cost of kerosene has dropped from $1.79 to $1.67 per litre. Unleaded fuel is now priced at $2.62 per litre, down from $2.73, while diesel prices have been reduced to $2.18 per litre. Premix fuel has also seen a reduction, falling from $2.55 to $2.43 per litre.

In contrast, the price of a 4.5kg cylinder of gas has increased from $14.80 to $14.97, and a 12kg cylinder now costs $39.91.

Joel Abraham, CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, emphasized that maintaining affordability for Fijian families is a key priority for their organization. He stated that these recent price adjustments are part of their commitment to protect consumers from the fluctuations of the global market.

Abraham acknowledged the rising costs affecting daily life and assured that through careful monitoring and regulatory actions, the FCCC is dedicated to keeping essential goods, such as fuel, affordable. This approach is especially important for vulnerable communities, as it supports household budgets and promotes consumer welfare alongside fair market practices.

In summary, while fuel prices have fallen, which could provide relief for many households, it’s important to note the simultaneous increase in gas cylinder prices. This highlights the challenges consumers face in navigating the complexities of the market. Overall, the FCCC’s proactive efforts to support affordability during these times is a positive step towards ensuring that essential commodities remain accessible to all.
