As the new year approaches, consumers in Fiji should prepare for an uptick in fuel prices, with adjustments set to take effect on January 1. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced that gasoline prices will remain stable; however, costs for kerosene and diesel will witness a modest increase of $0.04.

Specifically, the price for a 4.5kg gas cylinder will rise by $0.18, bringing its total to $15.53, while a 12kg gas cylinder will see an increase of $0.50, changing from $40.92 to $41.42. Additionally, Autogas will increase by $0.03, moving from $2.22 to $2.25, and bulk gas prices will adjust from $3.16 to $3.20.

These changes stem from fluctuations in the Means of Platts Singapore (MOPS), variations in international freight rates, and shifts in foreign exchange rates.

While increases in fuel prices can be burdensome, it’s worth noting that stable income from motor spirit and premix reflects an effort to mitigate the cost of living for consumers. This could encourage consumers to explore alternative energy sources or more fuel-efficient options in the face of rising costs. Ultimately, such developments remind us of the importance of environmental adaptability and the potential benefits of exploring renewable energy solutions.
