The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced the new regulated prices for Unleaded Petrol (Motor Spirit), Premix, Kerosene, Diesel, and LPG products, which will take effect on January 1, 2025. These price adjustments reflect the fuel and LPG imports made by companies in November 2024, following a one-month review period.
In its analysis, the FCCC noted that the prices for Motor Spirit and Premix will remain stable. This steadiness is attributed to favorable changes in international fuel prices and freight rates, despite the impact of a stronger US dollar. On the other hand, prices for Kerosene and Diesel are expected to experience an increase, driven by rising international fuel costs and the strengthened US dollar.
The prices for LPG will also see a rise due to higher Butane Contract Prices and increasing demand in international markets.
The FCCC has stressed its commitment to monitoring compliance with these new pricing regulations at both wholesale and retail outlets. Consumers are encouraged to report any discrepancies in pricing. The FCCC’s enforcement teams are ready and available in various regions to ensure that these regulations are effectively upheld.
As the new prices roll out in early 2025, the public is urged to stay informed and check for updates at their local fuel outlets.
This proactive measure by the FCCC reflects a diligent effort to manage fuel pricing and protect consumers. By encouraging public participation in reporting price violations, the FCCC is fostering a transparent marketplace that ultimately benefits everyone.
