The prices for unleaded fuel, diesel, and premix have seen a decline as of today. Starting from the beginning of the month, kerosene prices have dropped from $1.79 to $1.67 per liter. Unleaded fuel has decreased from $2.73 to $2.62 per liter, while diesel will now cost $2.18 per liter, and premix has fallen from $2.55 to $2.43 per liter.
In contrast, the price of a 4.5kg gas cylinder has risen slightly from $14.80 to $14.97, and a 12kg cylinder will now cost $39.91.
Joel Abraham, CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), emphasized their commitment to maintaining affordability for Fijian families. He stated that this adjustment reflects FCCC’s ongoing efforts to protect consumers from the volatility of global market fluctuations. They are acutely aware of the impact that rising costs have on daily life and aim to keep essential commodities, such as fuel, accessible to the most vulnerable segments of society.
By regulating fuel prices, the FCCC not only aims to support household budgets but also strengthens its commitment to consumer welfare and fair market practices.
Overall, the decrease in fuel prices offers some relief to households struggling with the cost of living. While the increase in gas cylinder prices is unfortunate, the overall trend in fuel price reduction reflects positively on the efforts of regulatory bodies to support consumers during challenging times.
