Fuel prices for unleaded fuel, diesel, and premix have seen a reduction as of today. As of the first of the month, kerosene prices have decreased from $1.79 to $1.67 per litre. Unleaded fuel has also dropped in price from $2.73 to $2.62 per litre, while diesel fuel will now be available for $2.18 per litre. The cost of premix has fallen from $2.55 to $2.43 per litre.
In contrast, the price of gas has seen an increase, with a 4.5kg gas cylinder rising from $14.80 to $14.97, and the 12kg cylinder now priced at $39.91.
Joel Abraham, CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), emphasized that keeping essential commodities affordable for Fijian families is a priority. He stated that this price adjustment reflects the FCCC’s efforts to mitigate the impact of global market fluctuations on consumers.
Abraham acknowledged the strain that rising costs can have on daily life, and assured the public that through careful monitoring and regulatory actions, the FCCC is dedicated to maintaining access to essential fuel prices, especially for those in vulnerable situations. He noted that by stabilizing prices, they are supporting household budgets, reinforcing consumer welfare, and ensuring fair market practices.
This news offers a glimmer of hope for families dealing with the ongoing cost of living challenges, as the decrease in fuel prices could help alleviate some financial pressures.
In summary, while certain gas prices have increased, the overall drop in fuel prices is a positive move that aims to support consumers during economically challenging times.
