The prices of unleaded fuel, diesel, and premix have seen a decrease as of today. Beginning on the first of the month, the cost of kerosene has been lowered from $1.79 to $1.67 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of unleaded fuel has dropped from $2.73 to $2.62 per litre, and diesel is now priced at $2.18 per litre. The price for premix has also decreased, going from $2.55 to $2.43 per litre.
However, there has been an uptick in the prices of gas cylinders. A 4.5kg cylinder of gas has risen from $14.80 to $14.97, while the cost of a 12kg cylinder has climbed to $39.91.
Joel Abraham, CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), emphasizes that maintaining affordability for Fijian families is a key priority. He states that this adjustment in fuel prices illustrates the FCCC’s dedication to insulating consumers from the fluctuations in global markets. Recognizing the significant impact of rising costs on daily life, the FCCC is committed to diligent monitoring and regulatory actions to keep essential commodities like fuel accessible, especially for vulnerable populations.
Abraham further explains that by stabilizing prices, the FCCC not only supports household finances but also reinforces its commitment to consumer welfare and fair market practices.
This recent development is encouraging for consumers, demonstrating that regulatory efforts can have a positive impact on affordability during challenging economic times.
In summary, while fuel prices have decreased, challenges remain with rising gas cylinder costs. Nevertheless, the commitment of the FCCC to protect consumers reflects a positive step toward managing the pressures of inflation and market volatility.
