The prices of unleaded fuel, diesel, and premix have seen a decline starting today. As of the beginning of the month, the cost of kerosene has decreased from $1.79 to $1.67 per litre. Unleaded fuel prices have dropped from $2.73 to $2.62 per litre, while diesel now costs $2.18 per litre. Additionally, the price of premix has seen a reduction from $2.55 to $2.43 per litre.
Conversely, the price of a 4.5kg gas cylinder has risen from $14.80 to $14.97, and a 12kg cylinder will now cost $39.91.
Joel Abraham, CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC), emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring the affordability of essential goods for Fijian families. He noted that this recent price adjustment reflects the FCCC’s dedication to protecting consumers from global market fluctuations.
Abraham acknowledged the challenges posed by rising living costs and asserted that through careful monitoring and regulatory actions, the FCCC strives to keep vital commodities like fuel accessible to all, especially those in vulnerable situations. By stabilizing prices, they aim to support family budgets and reinforce their dedication to consumer welfare and equitable market practices.
This positive development in fuel pricing could provide significant relief to families and individuals, potentially easing some of the financial pressures created by current economic conditions.
In summary, while the fuel prices are decreasing, the increase in gas cylinder costs highlights the mixed pricing landscape consumers continue to navigate. The FCCC’s efforts to support affordability underscores a proactive approach to maintain cost stability in essential goods.
