Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has emphasized that the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Union (FSSRU) must prioritize student safety before, during, and after sanctioned school events.
This statement was made following a meeting with senior executives of FSSRU and principals of the two Eastern Zone schools yesterday.
The FSSRU has assured Radrodro and the Ministry that such incidents will not happen again and highlighted that measures will be implemented to ensure incident-free games.
The Union has pledged to maintain supervision at all times and will inform schools about the expected behavior of their students and supporters, including safety protocols.
To enhance supervision, Ministry of Education District and Divisional Officers will be present at all game venues to ensure the smooth running of the remaining Deans Competition matches.
Meanwhile, the principals of the two schools, known for their strong rugby programs, have reiterated the need for increased supervision, fair play, and the continuous prioritization of children’s safety.
