The brother of a former CEO of the Fiji Sugar Corporation reportedly received an annual salary of $80,000. This information was disclosed by Charan Jeath Singh, the Minister for Sugar, who indicated that it came from the FSC board. Singh mentioned that the individual traveled from South Africa to Fiji for a vacation, and his official role at the FSC remains unclear.
The minister emphasized that proper hiring protocols were not observed during the individual’s recruitment. “No advertisement was published in the media for the position,” Singh stated. He expressed uncertainty regarding the man’s job responsibilities, noting the absence of a job description and characterizing his role as trivial.
In addition to the salary, the FSC reimbursed the individual’s airfare from South Africa to Fiji. Singh claimed that these details were provided to him by the board. When asked if he intended to report the incident to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, he indicated that he would await further guidance from the board, stating, “I cannot do it by myself.”
These comments were made during a meeting with farmers in Bucaisau, located near Labasa Town.
