The Civil High Court in Suva has dismissed the appeal application lodged by Pawan Deo, the former financial officer of Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), against the Trust Board. This decision came after Deo chose to withdraw the case he had filed against the FRU.

The FRU had initiated legal proceedings against Deo, his spouse, and their business, Sports Supplies Limited, due to allegations of embezzling approximately $7,000. This matter had previously been addressed in the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court.

On July 24, the FRU opted to withdraw their case, leading Deo to file a counterclaim for damages related to both financial and non-financial impacts he asserted were caused by the FRU.

In recent court proceedings, Deo expressed difficulties in navigating court processes, having been directed between Suva and Nasinu in efforts to obtain necessary documents for his application. Following his lawyer’s guidance, he informed the court of his intent to withdraw the appeal, planning to submit a new application at a future date.

The legal representative for the FRU, Tomasi Tuitoga, indicated that the organization did not oppose Deo’s withdrawal but requested a modest compensation of $200, which Deo is required to pay by November 27.

This case highlights the complexities of legal disputes and the importance of clear communication within the court system. Despite the challenges faced, both parties appear to be moving towards a resolution, showcasing the potential for a fresh start in their respective legal journeys.

Overall, while the situation may seem contentious, it serves as a reminder that legal conflicts can often lead to constructive outcomes, paving the way for future cooperation and understanding.
