The Civil High Court in Suva has dismissed an appeal by Pawan Deo, the former financial officer of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), against the Trust Board. This decision came after Deo withdrew his legal case against the FRU, which had previously initiated legal proceedings against Deo, his wife, and their business, Sports Supplies Limited, accusing them of embezzling funds and seeking approximately $7,000 in compensation.
The issue had been brought before the Nasinu Magistrate’s Court before being escalated. After the FRU withdrew their initial complaint on July 24, Deo filed a counterclaim, seeking damages for the financial and non-financial burdens imposed on him by the FRU.
During a recent court session, Deo expressed difficulties in accessing necessary documentation from the court registry, which had resulted in delays. He informed the court that, under his lawyer’s advice, he was withdrawing his application with plans to submit a new one in the future.
FRU’s legal representative, Tomasi Tuitoga, indicated that the organization did not oppose the withdrawal but requested that Deo pay a $200 compensation fee, due by November 27.
This development highlights the complexities that can arise in legal processes, and the importance of proper legal guidance to navigate these challenges. Though the case has seen turbulence, it presents an opportunity for both parties to address their grievances amicably and potentially move toward a resolution.
