Private Anthony Pesamino’s dream of becoming a veterinarian took an unexpected turn when he discovered that Fiji National University no longer offered the veterinary program he aspired to pursue. Facing disappointment, he found himself at a crucial juncture and made the decision to apply for a position in the military.
Reflecting on this significant change, Pesamino conveyed, “It was a real change for me.” Despite his initial lack of experience, he was undeterred and applied for the military role alongside many other candidates. His dedication and determination paid off as he completed an intensive 18 months of military training.
Upon graduating from the FTG (military training ground in Nasinu), Private Pesamino acknowledged how the experience transformed his perspective on life. “The discipline I learned during training has been a game changer for me,” he stated, highlighting the essential skills he acquired, ranging from critical problem-solving to community engagement.
Pesamino emphasized that joining the military has opened new avenues for both himself and his family. He expressed excitement about serving his country and recognized the sense of pride and purpose that comes with contributing to national security. “Military service offers the opportunity to be part of something larger than yourself, working to protect and defend the nation,” he noted, illustrating the profound impact that this experience has had on his life.
