From Vet Dreams to Military Discipline: A Soldier’s Transformation

Private Anthony Pesamino’s aspirations of becoming a veterinarian took an unexpected turn when he discovered that Fiji National University had discontinued its veterinary program. Faced with this disappointment, he found himself at a pivotal point in his life and chose to apply to join the military.

“I experienced a significant shift,” he remarked. Though initially lacking experience, he did not allow that to deter him from his aspirations. Instead, he embraced the challenge and, through sheer determination, completed 18 months of demanding military training.

Upon graduating from the FTG (military training ground in Nasinu), Private Pesamino expressed how this journey has transformed his perspective. “The discipline I gained during training has truly been life-changing for me,” he stated. He highlighted the essential skills he acquired, such as problem-solving and community engagement, which he considers invaluable.

Private Pesamino emphasized that enlisting in the military has opened new opportunities for him and his family. He is eager to serve and recognizes the sense of pride and purpose that comes with safeguarding national security. “Military service provides the chance to be part of something greater than oneself, dedicated to the protection and defense of the nation,” he shared.
