From Tragedy to Triumph: A Young Farmer’s Journey in Fiji’s Dairy Industry

Tasweed Zunar Ali has turned his childhood dream of becoming a dairy farmer into reality, inspired by his father’s legacy on their family farm. Following his father’s death in 2021, Tasweed took over the operation and has successfully grown the herd from 20 to 60 cows, producing approximately 230 liters of milk daily for Fiji Dairy Limited.

Despite facing obstacles such as dog attacks and adverse weather conditions, he has received valuable support from the Agriculture Ministry and the Dairy Extension Programme, which has helped him improve pasture management and feeding practices. Tasweed encourages other aspiring farmers to follow their passion for agriculture, emphasizing the importance of hygiene, animal welfare, and finding joy in their work.
