From the Shadows to the Spotlight: Ana Seru’s Inspiring Cadet Journey

Ana Seru, a 14-year-old student from Naivucini, Naitasiri, has been recognized as the top female cadet during the John Wesley College passing-out parade held at Albert Park, Suva. Growing up in the Raiwaqa area, which is known for its social challenges, Ana described her experience in cadet training as both demanding and rewarding.

Throughout the week of training, she faced the difficulties of intense heat while mastering her marching skills. Ana reflected on her upbringing, acknowledging the challenges she faced and emphasizing her commitment to excellence in her education. “The only way to improve my life is through education,” she stated.

Ana highlighted the importance of making thoughtful choices, particularly in the face of peer pressure, a lesson instilled in her by her family. She dedicated her achievements to her father and siblings, who were present at the event. As the quieter member of her family, Ana hopes her success will motivate her younger siblings to believe in their potential. Inspired by her performance, they aspire to join secondary school and participate in cadet training in the future.
