Delai Naiqasiqasi will see a new leader today as Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Tui Cakau, officially takes office following an inauguration ceremony at State House this morning.
While Ratu Naiqama is known for his political career and his tenure as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, details about his challenging upbringing are less well-known. Raised under modest circumstances, his determination to overcome adversity and succeed is widely acknowledged.
Friends and acquaintances highlight that his inspiring journey, which began in the suburbs of Suva and continued in Somosomo village, Taveuni, was anticipated by those close to him. Ratu Naiqama was raised primarily by his mother, Adi Unaisi Lalabalavu, while his father, Ratu Glanville Wellington Lalabalavu, served in the military and fought against communist guerillas in Malaya.

His professional journey began at the then Native Land Trust Board, where he built a notable career in land and estate management.
