Vika Nakacia, a dedicated young rugby player from Yasawa, has turned her struggles into a source of motivation as she prepares to represent Fiji at the Dubai 7s. Faced with financial challenges that sometimes left her unable to afford transportation to training sessions in Lautoka, Nakacia demonstrated remarkable determination by walking and running to Nadovu Grounds from her home in Kashmir.
Reflecting on her experiences, Nakacia shared that although it was difficult to overcome the hurdles—especially as a female athlete facing criticism—her passion for rugby kept her going. “Sometimes it is also difficult, especially for us women players, because we hear a lot of negative talk,” Nakacia explained. Nevertheless, her resilience has paid off, as she has successfully navigated the obstacles and reached her current position as a stalwart in rugby league and a representative of Yasawa in rugby union.
As she looks ahead to competing in Dubai, Nakacia remains hopeful and eager to showcase her skills. “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud,” she stated.
