Vika Nakacia has overcome numerous challenges on her path to becoming a rugby player and recently achieved a significant milestone by earning a spot on the Fiji women’s sevens team for the upcoming tournament in Dubai.

Her journey began in 2020 when she started playing rugby league, later transitioning to sevens rugby two years ago. Nakacia represents the Ezers club, which was established last year, and previously played for the Namoli Wests Tigers in rugby league, where her team advanced to the semi-finals.

Despite facing criticism regarding women’s participation in rugby and financial hardships that often left her without proper equipment or transport to training sessions, Nakacia persevered. She often walked long distances from Kashmir to Nadovu Park for practice, demonstrating her commitment to the sport.

Initially, her parents were skeptical about her involvement in rugby, which she started while in Year 13 at Ba Provincial Free Bird Institute in Lautoka, ultimately leaving her education unfinished. However, with her recent success, Nakacia is now motivated to complete her high school education and pursue an accounting degree.

She encourages young girls to believe in themselves and pursue their passions, emphasizing that with determination and faith, anything is achievable. Nakacia is inspired by Fiji men’s sevens player Jerry Tuwai, whose advice to remain patient and focused has resonated with her amidst her journey.

This inspiring story not only highlights Nakacia’s resilience and hard work but also serves as a motivation for young girls everywhere to pursue their dreams in sports, emphasizing that support, dedication, and belief can pave the way to success.

Overall, Vika Nakacia’s journey is a testament to how perseverance can lead to remarkable achievements, reminding us that overcoming challenges can lead to extraordinary opportunities.
