Vika Nakacia, a young athlete from Yasawa, has turned her challenges into motivation, believing that her hardships during training were ultimately beneficial. Often facing financial constraints that prevented her from paying for transportation to practice in Lautoka, Vika took matters into her own hands by walking and running to training sessions at Nadovu Grounds, located in Kashmir.
Reflecting on her journey, Nakacia shared, “Sometimes I had no fare to attend training. So, I had to run and walk to our trainings.” She also emphasized the unique difficulties women in sports face, mentioning the negativity that can accompany their pursuit of athletic goals. “It is hard when you try to play the sport you love and you are discouraged,” she noted. Nevertheless, Vika remained resilient, overcoming these obstacles with determination and a positive mindset. “I am glad that through the sacrifices and obstacles I managed to get through to where I am now,” she affirmed.
As a dedicated player in rugby league, Nakacia has also represented Yasawa in rugby union. Now, she is eager to take her skills to the international stage, expressing her excitement about the opportunity to represent Fiji at the Dubai Sevens. “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud,” she stated.
Vika Nakacia’s story serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of perseverance and the importance of pursuing one’s passion, regardless of the challenges faced along the way. Her journey illustrates that adversity can indeed lead to personal and athletic growth, and her hopeful outlook for the future is commendable.
In summary, Nakacia’s determination, strength, and commitment to rugby showcase both her resilience and her aspirations, potentially setting an example for other young athletes facing similar challenges.
