The book “The Road to Parliament,” which details the personal and political experiences of former National Federation Party leader Harish Sharma, was launched at Jai Narayan College yesterday.
Mr. Sharma, who also held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Housing, Urban Development, and Information following the 1987 General Elections, was celebrated during the event.
Current NFP leader and Coalition Government Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad praised Mr. Sharma, describing him as “an embodiment of wisdom, authority, goodwill, and a shining example of what can be achieved through political morality, transparency, and accountability.”
Professor Prasad highlighted the remarkable achievement of Mr. Sharma nearing 90 years of age and beginning to write his memoirs. He expressed admiration for Mr. Sharma’s ability to accurately recall significant events and engage in thorough research.
“The Road to Parliament – A glimpse into the life of Hon Harish C Sharma” reflects the life of an individual characterized by humility, kindness, integrity, and honesty.
Recalling his own humble beginnings in a rural environment, Professor Prasad noted Mr. Sharma’s resilience in overcoming early challenges. Mr. Sharma faced significant personal struggles, including the loss of his mother at a young age, which could have devastated many children.
He endured hardships during his school years, being treated poorly by the family he worked for, but he rose above these challenges, demonstrating the true measure of his character.
“The Road to Parliament is the glittering jewel in the crown of Mr. Harish Sharma,” Professor Prasad concluded.
