From Struggles to Success: Waisale’s Journey Beyond Depression

Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi recently celebrated his graduation from the University of the South Pacific, marking the fulfillment of a long-held aspiration. A decade earlier, his dream of becoming a lawyer did not materialize, leading him to shift his focus towards becoming a bank officer and joining the alumni network of USP.

Mr. Tavatuilagi shared that overcoming depression was a significant challenge in achieving his degree. He emphasized the importance of developing a positive mindset and surrounding himself with quality people, along with establishing a supportive network. “The right attitude and the strong support from my family were crucial parts of my journey,” he stated.

Originally from Nabouciwa, Nakelo, in Tailevu, and with maternal ties to Nasaqalau, Lakeba in Lau, the 33-year-old is determined to be the best version of himself when opportunities arise. He expressed gratitude for the encouragement he received from his peers, which motivated him despite facing numerous struggles and setbacks. “God was at the center of it all, and I am thankful for the gift of family and friendship,” he concluded.
