Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi has overcome significant challenges, including depression, to achieve his long-held goal of earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance from the University of the South Pacific. Mr. Tavatuilagi graduated on Friday, reflecting on his journey that began over ten years ago when his aspiration to become a lawyer did not come to fruition.
Redirecting his focus, he pursued a career as a bank officer and aimed to join the ranks of USP alumni. He credits his success to a positive mindset, strong family support, and surrounding himself with encouraging individuals.
“I was determined to overcome the shackles of depression and trained myself to see things differently, embracing positivity,” he explained. Originally from Nabouciwa in Tailevu and with family ties to Nasaqalau in Lakeba, Lau, the 33-year-old is committed to becoming the best version of himself.
He acknowledged that dealing with depression was one of the toughest battles he faced while studying. “I was propelled forward by peers who believed in me, helping me persist through my struggles and failures,” he shared. “I am grateful for the blessings of family and friendship, with God at the center of my journey.”
