Maraia Marama Vadei, a dedicated mother of three and newly admitted lawyer, is on a mission to inspire young and single mothers to chase their dreams through education. The 28-year-old, hailing from Lomaiviti with roots in Burebasaga, Rewa, made a remarkable achievement as the first lawyer in her family, balancing work, family responsibilities, and academic demands throughout her journey.
Ms. Vadei believes that continuous learning is essential for personal growth and achieving a better life. Her educational journey began at Nasinu Gospel Primary School, before she transitioned to Assemblies of God Primary School. For high school, she attended both Assemblies of God High School and Rishikul Sanatan College in Nasinu. During her foundation program in social studies at Fiji National University, she was encouraged by an inspiring lecturer to explore the field of law.
Despite facing numerous challenges, particularly transitioning from an agricultural science background, Ms. Vadei found strength and support from her extended family. The COVID-19 pandemic posed additional hurdles when her father lost his job, prompting her to take on part-time work at supermarkets and a nearby cafeteria to support her studies and family.
Ms. Vadei expressed immense gratitude for the encouragement from her husband and both families, admitting that while she initially aspired to become a veterinarian, her journey aligned with a greater purpose. Her faith plays a crucial role in her outlook, as she firmly believes that with divine support, anyone can realize their aspirations.
