Vika Nakacia, a dedicated rugby player from Yasawa, has turned adversity into opportunity, believing that her struggles served as a blessing in disguise. Facing financial challenges that often left her without fare for transportation, Nakacia resorted to walking and running to her training sessions in Lautoka.
Reflecting on her experiences, Nakacia shared, “Sometimes I had no fare to attend training. So, I had to run and walk to our trainings at Nadovu Grounds from my home in Kashmir.” She acknowledged the difficulties women players face, including negative comments from critics that can be discouraging. However, she remained resolute, stating, “But I didn’t let that stop me, and I am glad that through the sacrifices and obstacles, I managed to get through to where I am now.”
As a prominent player in rugby league, Nakacia has also represented Yasawa in rugby union, showcasing her versatility on the field. With aspirations of representing Fiji in the upcoming Dubai 7s, she expressed optimism about making her country proud, saying, “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud.”
