From Struggles to Stardom: Tevita Waranaivalu’s Inspiring Journey to Golden Ball Glory

Rewa football midfielder Tevita Waranaivalu has dedicated his recent award to his family and teammates who have supported him through challenging times. Waranaivalu made history by becoming the first Fijian footballer to win the Digicel Fiji Premier League Golden Ball Award at the Fiji Football Association’s award ceremony on Friday night, held at the Sugar Cane Growers Building in Lautoka.

Originally from Naisomua, Tailevu, Waranaivalu reflected on the struggles he faced over the past two seasons, particularly with injuries and weight issues. “I have been through a lot,” he noted, explaining that despite facing setbacks early in the season, he persevered and was determined to finish strong.

He experienced periods of limited playing time, often finding himself on the bench. However, he maintained a positive outlook, focusing on improving his fitness and addressing his weight concerns. “Every time I went on the national team, I was overweight, but I still believed in myself that I could do it,” he said.

Waranaivalu expressed gratitude for his family’s unwavering support, acknowledging that their presence has been crucial to his success. “Without them, I couldn’t have got it. They’ve stood by me, and we’ve grown as a team,” he stated. He dedicated the award to his two sons, Richard and King David, highlighting the importance of family in his journey.

Earlier this month, Waranaivalu was also recognized as the Player of the Tournament during the Police Inter Formation Championship 2024 held in Nausori.
