Vika Nakacia, a determined young athlete from Yasawa, has transformed her struggle with transportation into a source of strength and resilience. Often facing the challenge of not being able to afford fare for her training sessions in Lautoka, Nakacia refused to let financial hardships hinder her progress. Instead, she embraced the situation, sometimes running or walking to the Nadovu Grounds from her home in Kashmir.
Reflecting on her experiences, Nakacia acknowledged the difficulties that women in sports often face, including negative criticism. Despite these challenges, she remained committed to her passion for rugby, stating, “It is hard when you try to play the sport you love and you are discouraged. But I didn’t let that stop me.”
Her perseverance has led her to become a standout player in rugby league, and she previously represented Yasawa in rugby union. Now, she is eagerly anticipating the opportunity to represent Fiji in the upcoming Dubai 7s tournament. “I am really hopeful to do my best and make Fiji proud,” she expressed with enthusiasm.
Nakacia’s story serves as encouragement for athletes facing similar challenges, highlighting the power of dedication and the ability to rise above obstacles. It reminds us that hardships can often lead to personal growth and success.
In summary, Vika Nakacia’s journey is a testament to determination and resilience in the face of adversity. Her optimism and hard work continue to inspire not only her teammates but also aspiring athletes in her community.
