Waisale Taufa Tavatuilagi faced significant challenges stemming from depression, but he has now achieved a long-time goal by graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Finance from the University of the South Pacific. Mr. Tavatuilagi, whose aspiration was to become a lawyer a decade ago, shifted his focus after that dream did not come to fruition.
He turned his attention towards becoming a bank officer and has successfully reached this milestone. In reflecting on his journey, Mr. Tavatuilagi emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and surrounding himself with supportive people.
“I associated myself more with quality people and found the right support network,” he shared, highlighting the dedication and encouragement he received from his family and peers.
Originally from Nabouciwa, Nakelo in Tailevu, with maternal ties to Nasaqalau, Lakeba, Lau, the 33-year-old is determined to be the best version of himself when afforded opportunities. He noted that overcoming depression was one of the biggest challenges he faced while pursuing his degree.
“It’s all thanks to the peers who had faith in me, encouraging me to keep pushing despite the struggles and failures I encountered,” he said. “God has been central to my journey, and I am grateful for the gift of family and friendship.”
