From Stay-at-Home to Engineering: Meet the Inspiring Mom Breaking Barriers

Joana Adimila, a dedicated stay-at-home mother, has successfully pursued her educational aspirations despite her circumstances. Over the past 12 weeks, she participated in a training program offered by the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), marking her return to formal education after more than a decade.

While managing her jewellery business was her primary source of income, Ms. Adimila actively sought out new opportunities. “Experiencing what it’s like to be a student again after years at home was refreshing,” she expressed. She noted her gratitude for the chances the APTC provided, enabling her to explore various potential career paths.

On Wednesday, she proudly graduated with a Certificate II in Engineering Pathways, with a specialization in welding and fabrication. Although the engineering sector is predominantly male, she emphasized the growing need for women in these fields.

Transitioning from her small business to explore different career avenues is a challenging endeavor, she admitted. “I am ready with my newly acquired knowledge because I want to have a better future,” she stated confidently.
