From Setbacks to Success: One Woman’s Inspiring Journey of Resilience

Hitting a low point in her life turned into a transformative opportunity for Atelaite Rokosuka, a dedicated civil servant. After earning her Master of Commerce in Management and Public Administration from the University of the South Pacific, Mrs. Rokosuka described her journey as guided by divine intervention, stating, “God is the perfect planner.”

At the graduation event, many women from various backgrounds were celebrated, but Mrs. Rokosuka stood out. Throughout her challenges and setbacks, she relied on her unwavering faith as her source of strength.

Balancing family responsibilities while pursuing her degree in 2018 proved to be a daunting task. Mrs. Rokosuka recognized that embarking on her master’s studies amidst her commitments required courage. The demands of her government job complicated matters further; however, the support of her family made her educational journey feasible.

“Juggling my studies while managing family responsibilities was extremely challenging,” she reflected. “Finding time to study was itself a struggle, but with the right mindset and support from my loved ones, I found the motivation to keep going.”

Even during her toughest times, including a temporary layoff from her position as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, Mrs. Rokosuka remained resolute in continuing her education. She viewed this setback as an opportunity to enhance her skills and achieve her Master’s degree.

Though there were moments when she felt like giving up, her faith in Jesus Christ inspired her to overcome challenges and persist in her pursuit of self-improvement.

“Giving up was never an option for me because I knew I had much to achieve not only for my own education but also to share what I have learned with others,” she stated. “I believe that our ability to rise after facing difficulties greatly influences our journey in life.”

Through her achievements, Mrs. Rokosuka has established a notable career in civil service over the span of 27 years while also successfully raising six children with her husband’s support and cherishing time spent with her grandchildren. She is passionate about encouraging other women to chase their educational and professional goals, believing this can foster a supportive community and dismantle barriers.
