Transitioning from a background in science to the fields of accounting and economics can be a daunting challenge, but for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia, the journey has been rewarding. Along with his peers Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, he was honored with the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics ceremony held in Lautoka last week.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr. Kapadia acknowledged the difficulty of shifting to an unfamiliar field. “It wasn’t easy; I struggled with concepts I was unfamiliar with,” he admitted. However, with the support of his lecturers and a steadfast commitment to his studies, he gradually gained the confidence needed to excel.
Balancing academic responsibilities with career preparation posed additional challenges. “Managing deadlines, assignments, and preparing for the future wasn’t straightforward,” he noted. Through organization, clear prioritization, and working part-time after classes, he managed to make the most of his time. These experiences cultivated his resilience and adaptability.
Kamal Prasad shared her own struggles during her academic journey, noting that financial constraints, especially transport costs, were significant hurdles. Her mother’s motivational words resonated with her: to achieve worthwhile goals, one must put in the effort. She also expressed gratitude for her father’s unwavering support, which helped her navigate challenges alongside her friend Ruqayyah Hakim.
For Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, the sacrifices made by her mother and grandmother fueled her ambitions. As the dux of Nadi Muslim College in 2021, she aims to make her family proud and leave a positive legacy wherever she goes. “Success is about seeing my aunt, grandparents, and mother smile with pride at my accomplishments,” she remarked, emphasizing that her journey is not just personal but communal.
The stories of these three students exemplify perseverance and the importance of a strong support system in achieving one’s goals. Their achievements serve as a beacon of hope for others facing similar transitions or challenges. Through dedication and hard work, obstacles can be transformed into stepping stones for future success.
In a world where adaptability and resilience are increasingly valuable, the triumphs of these students remind us that with determination, support, and a clear vision, success is within reach for anyone willing to strive for it.
