Transitioning from a background in science to accounting and economics is certainly a significant challenge, but for 21-year-old Sanskar Kapadia, it was a journey marked by determination and resilience. Recently, he and his peers, Kamal Prasad and Fatima Siddeqa, were honored with the Most Outstanding Accounting and Finance Student (Department) Award 2024 during a ceremony held at the University of Fiji School of Business and Economics in Lautoka.
Kapadia reflected on the difficulties he faced in adapting to this new field, admitting that he struggled initially with concepts that were entirely foreign to him. However, he credits his lecturers for their support and acknowledges that his commitment to continuous effort helped him build his confidence. He also learned the importance of balancing academics with career preparation, managing not only deadlines and assignments but also securing a part-time job to maximize his time effectively.
Kamal Prasad shared her own story of perseverance, noting that her mother’s encouragement to strive for achievement kept her motivated throughout her studies. Despite facing financial hurdles, particularly regarding transport costs, she leaned on her father’s unwavering support and her friend Ruqayyah Hakim, which helped her to navigate academic challenges with determination.
Fatima Aiyesha Siddeqa, who earned the title of dux at Nadi Muslim College in 2021, attributes her drive to the sacrifices made by her mother and grandmother, vowing to ensure their efforts are not squandered. For her, success extends beyond mere personal accomplishment; it involves leaving a lasting legacy and making her family proud. Her aunt, a source of inspiration, plays a significant role in her life, as she aims to see her loved ones proud of her achievements.
This collective narrative of resilience and support reflects a positive outlook as these students continue to strive for success, motivated by their backgrounds and the encouragement they receive from their families and peers. The stories of Mr. Kapadia, Ms. Prasad, and Ms. Siddeqa illustrate that with determination and a strong support system, overcoming challenges is possible, paving the way for future accomplishments.
In summary, their journeys exemplify the power of perseverance and familial support in achieving academic success, serving as an inspiration for others facing similar transitions and difficulties. As they move forward, they not only pursue their individual goals but also carry with them the pride and aspirations of their families, which can fuel further motivation and achievements in their future endeavors.
