Nineteen-year-old Jordan Miller’s rugby journey took a remarkable turn when he joined the Vodafone Fiji Bati team after initially visiting Fiji with the Australian schoolboys in 2022. This experience marks a significant milestone in his burgeoning rugby league career.
Miller, a prop who grew up in Australia, has ties to Fiji through his father, who hails from Savusavu. He is excited to train with veteran players from the Bati and NRL stars he admired while growing up, including Tui Kamikamica from the Storm, Maika Sivo, and Viliame Kikau.
Gratitude towards coach Waisake Kativerata is evident as Miller made his debut with the Bati, starting from the bench. “I’ve always wanted to play for Fiji,” he said, reflecting on his first experience training with prominent players. “It feels surreal to work alongside these big names. I didn’t expect this opportunity to come so soon, but I’m thankful to be here.”
Miller shared that he has learned a great deal about the team’s culture during the past week, noting the positive atmosphere fueled by daily devotion and high energy levels. “It’s a fun camp to be in,” he commented.
This year, Miller signed a three-year contract with the Tigers, making his NRL debut in Round 15 against the Titans in a match where the Tigers triumphed 18-10. He also received accolades at the Wests Magpies Harold Matthews Cup U17s, where he was named the player’s player and recognized as the best and fairest during their Junior Representative Award night in September 2022.
