Atelaite Rokosuka, a dedicated civil servant, experienced a transformative journey after hitting a low point in her life. Yesterday, she graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a Master of Commerce in Management and Public Administration, reflecting on her journey with the belief that “God is the perfect planner.”
The graduation ceremony showcased many remarkable women, but for Mrs. Rokosuka, her perseverance through numerous challenges was profound. Throughout her studies, which began in 2018, she faced the dual pressures of family responsibilities and a demanding government career. She recognized the bravery in her decision to pursue her master’s degree at that time.
Balancing her studies with the need to provide for her family proved to be tough. Mrs. Rokosuka emphasized that finding time to study was a continual struggle, yet her family’s unwavering support played a crucial role in her success. Despite experiencing difficult times, such as a temporary layoff from her position as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Fisheries and Forestry, she remained committed to her education and personal growth.
She viewed her challenges as pivotal moments that allowed her to enhance her capabilities and complete her degree. Although there were moments when she considered giving up, her faith in Jesus Christ fueled her determination to overcome obstacles and strive for self-improvement.
Mrs. Rokosuka firmly stated, “Giving up wasn’t an option for me because I knew I still had a lot to accomplish in the future, not only to educate myself but to share my knowledge with others.” She emphasized that resilience after setbacks often defines one’s journey in life.
In her 27 years of service as a civil servant, she successfully balanced her career while raising six children and cherishing moments with her grandchildren, with her husband’s steadfast support. Mrs. Rokosuka advocates for empowering other women to chase their educational and professional goals, believing that such encouragement can foster a nurturing community and dismantle existing barriers.
