After a four-year hiatus to care for her two children, Maria Adimainatuvu celebrated her graduation from the University of the South Pacific yesterday. Brimming with emotion, she received her Bachelor of Commerce in Tourism and Hospitality Management, taking a significant step toward her dream of working in the tourism sector.
“Completing this degree has greatly enhanced my self-esteem and provided me with a deep sense of achievement,” Ms. Adimainatuvu stated. She reminisced about the challenges of stepping away from her academic pursuits for such an extended period while managing her family but noted the experience was ultimately rewarding.
“Despite numerous setbacks, I was determined to forge a better future for my children,” she remarked. Ms. Adimainatuvu believes her success now serves as a strong example for her children about the values of education, perseverance, and self-improvement.
Returning to school while juggling household responsibilities has improved her problem-solving abilities and adaptability. This strong commitment to family values fills her with pride and motivates her to create a nurturing home environment.
At 27 years old and hailing from Kaba Village in Tailevu, she is optimistic that with continued support from friends, family, and peers, there are no limits to her accomplishments. “Nothing is impossible; this won’t be my last graduation. I aim to pursue the next level,” she declared.
