From LA Galaxy to Fiji: A Football Star’s Mission to Inspire Young Talent

Former LA Galaxy player Israel Sesay has returned to Fiji as part of an international initiative aimed at fostering young football talent. The program, organized by Riyaz Ali of the International Youth Football Academy (IYFA), has been running for eight years and invites professional players from the United States to conduct training sessions in Fiji.

Sesay, recognized as one of the youngest athletes to be signed by LA Galaxy and having played with football icon David Beckham, will be in Fiji for two weeks to work closely with aspiring young players on improving their techniques and tactics.

Ali shared that he and Sesay initially connected during Sesay’s visit to Fiji in 2013, and their mutual interest in developing football skills among the youth led to this partnership. Together, they aspire to identify local talent and create pathways for these players to achieve success on the international stage.

“When Ali asked me to come and help out with the kids, it was a no-brainer for me. I love doing what I do because I’m trying to pass on my knowledge, what I’ve learned playing professionally and from all these big coaches, and help these kids grow,” said Sesay.

With the guidance of Sesay, the program aims to enhance the skill set of Fijian youth, potentially opening doors for them to pursue careers in professional football.
