Siteri Namere Nanovo’s remarkable journey culminated in her achieving the dux award at Saint Thomas High School in Lautoka earlier this week. Her story stands as a beacon of inspiration, especially as many of her peers benefited from the support of their families. In contrast, Ms. Nanovo has shouldered significant responsibilities, balancing her studies with household chores and meal preparations while also caring for her five siblings.
At just 18 years old, she and her siblings were raised by their father, Ratu Sela Vunakasi Nanovo, after their mother left when Siteri was young. With immense gratitude, she dedicated her dux trophy to her father, acknowledging the sacrifices he has made for their education and well-being. “This dux trophy is for my Ratu, who has selflessly looked after us because he knows good education will get us a good future,” she expressed.
Ratu Sela, who works in the construction industry, has taken on the dual roles of both father and mother, a task not without challenges. Siteri reflected on the hardships they faced as a family, yet emphasized the strength and encouragement her father provided: “We face hardship together as a family, but he always encourages us to endure because good things lay ahead of us.” She believes that her father’s determination and her faith have been pivotal in helping her manage her studies.
Looking towards the future, Siteri plans to study law at the University of Fiji next year. Her aspiration to secure a better life for her family and repay her father’s sacrifices serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of resilience and ambition.
This heartwarming story exemplifies the strength of family bonds and the drive to overcome adversity. It showcases how hard work and dedication can lead to success, inspiring others to pursue their dreams despite the challenges they face. Siteri’s achievements highlight the positive outcomes that can arise from unwavering familial support and determination.
