Sohana Sital Chand, a 19-year-old woman, has turned her hardships into opportunities for growth and success. Despite coming from a challenging background and a broken family, she found support at Homes of Hope, a local organization that aids young mothers and their children.
Ms. Chand recently graduated with a Certificate 3 in Tourism Hospitality from the ServicePro International Tourism Hospitality Institute in Nasinu. She credits the program for enhancing the skills she believes are crucial for women.
“My course has empowered me to apply my skills at home in a more professional manner,” she said.
While residing at Homes of Hope, Ms. Chand received sponsorship for her studies in the tourism hospitality industry. She embraced the opportunity and believes in constantly improving herself, even when facing difficulties.
Balancing household responsibilities with school work posed a significant challenge for Ms. Chand. After spending hours on chores, she focused on her studies, often staying up late to complete assignments.
Now that her educational journey is complete, she is optimistic about the future. Her advice to others who are struggling is to prioritize happiness over the opinions of others.
“We only live once, so it’s essential to be happy and true to yourself,” she stated. “Life is fleeting; don’t overthink it. It’s better to make some people unhappy than to live a life of misery by trying to please everyone.”
