From Hardship to Hope: One Woman’s Inspiring Journey

Sohana Sital Chand, a 19-year-old from Nabua, has recently demonstrated that resilience can turn hardships into opportunities. Despite facing significant challenges due to her upbringing in a broken family, Ms. Chand has achieved a significant milestone by graduating with a Certificate 3 in Tourism Hospitality from ServicePro International Tourism Hospitality Institute in Nasinu.

Having spent time at Homes of Hope, an organization dedicated to providing restorative care for young mothers and their children, Ms. Chand was able to access educational and vocational training that changed the course of her life. In 2020, she received sponsorship for the Tourism Hospitality course, an opportunity she embraced wholeheartedly.

Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Chand acknowledged the difficult balance between household responsibilities and academic demands. “After a long half day of house chores, I was required to give 100 percent focus and attention during class,” she explained. Following her school hours, she would take on traditional roles, including cooking and other chores, often staying up late to study for exams and complete assignments.

Now that her educational journey is complete, Ms. Chand looks forward to her future with optimism. She encourages others facing difficulties to focus on personal happiness rather than seeking the approval of others. “We only live once, and the best thing to do is to be happy,” she stated. Her message emphasizes authenticity and the importance of being true to oneself rather than trying to please everyone.
