A group of Year 12 students from Queen Victoria School recently returned from a transformative three-week trip to California, USA. The journey, which took place from December 7 to December 30, 2024, was accompanied by parents, guardians, and teachers, providing a well-rounded experience for the students.

Setoki Butukoro, one of the students, expressed how the trip opened his eyes to new opportunities and advanced technology, motivating him to work harder in his studies to fulfill his dreams. Similarly, Ioane Qalo remarked on the distinct nature of America, highlighting the extensive educational prospects available there. Their visit included meetings with university personnel, including a Senator at the California State Capitol, who inspired them with the message to dream big.

The team leader, Ulai Butukoro, noted the success of the trip was largely due to the collaborative support from parents, teachers, the USA QVSOB Association, Ministry of Education, the US Embassy, and the Koroitamana family residing in the US. The students explored several prestigious universities such as American River College, St. Mary’s College, Sonoma State University, San Francisco State University, and the renowned UC Berkeley, which particularly fascinated them with its robotics museum.

In addition, they visited the headquarters of Apple and Google in Silicon Valley, learning about key innovations that shape the tech industry today. The experience not only expanded their horizons but also inspired them to strive for greater achievements beyond their immediate environment.

The team leader expressed gratitude for the support received from various community organizations, churches, and individuals, which significantly enriched their experience in California. The overall impression from the trip encourages optimism and ambition among the students, as they return with renewed aspirations for their future.

This educational trip illustrates the importance of providing young students with opportunities to explore different cultures and systems, which can serve as a catalyst for their personal and academic growth. Such experiences can empower students to envision a brighter future and underscore the value of hard work and perseverance.

In summary, the trip to California was not only a learning adventure for the students but a stepping stone towards shaping their futures, inspiring them to pursue their academic and professional dreams with vigor.
