“From Farm to Forestry: One Man’s Mission to Save Our Trees”

Spread the love

Passion serves as the driving force behind motivation, propelling individuals to overcome challenges and pursue their goals. This sentiment is echoed by Sonu Sanjay Dutt, a 40-year-old dedicated advocate for forest and wildlife conservation, who attributes his fervor for nature to his upbringing in Labasa.

For over a decade, Mr. Dutt has worked with the Ministry of Forestry, specifically within the Forest Resource Assessment and Conservation Division (FRAC) in Colo-i-Suva. His deep connection with the environment began early in life on a farm, where he was surrounded by lush trees and natural resources that sparked his commitment to conservation.

“Working at the ministry is a great learning opportunity,” Mr. Dutt explained, emphasizing that his role has broadened his understanding of environmental issues and how nature-based solutions can improve people’s lives. His enthusiasm for the forests is palpable as he discusses the significance of native trees, which often take many years, between 80 to 100, to mature. “It’s better to conserve so that our future generations can inherit these basic resources,” he stresses.

Drawing from his childhood experiences on a sugarcane farm with abundant trees providing fruit, Mr. Dutt’s appreciation for nature was cultivated early on. Even after relocating to Suva City for further education, he maintained his close bond with the forest, viewing it as a treasure trove of resources—”like a big supermarket.”

He encourages others to treat forests with respect and care, urging them to use trees sustainably rather than exploiting them. “Please, love your trees,” he implores.

Mr. Dutt’s dedication to conservation highlights the essential role individuals play in protecting our environment. His story not only inspires a commitment to sustainability but also serves as a hopeful reminder that through passion and awareness, we can all contribute to preserving our natural resources for generations to come.

By sharing his journey and message, Mr. Dutt encourages readers to recognize the inherent value of nature and the urgent need to safeguard it for the future.
